Program Outline

The Collegiate Institute is a two-year commitment by students who elect to enter the program. The program is designed for students who have the maturity and discipline needed to handle the academic rigor of a full college program while still in high school. It provides the opportunity for students to qualify for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program as a Florida Academic Scholar or a Florida Medallion Scholar. High school students who earn their AA degree through the Collegiate Institute will have Bright Futures scholarship money available to them for up to 132 hours or seven years or the first baccalaureate degree, whichever comes first.

Students who are enrolled in the program will spend their junior year on the Charlotte High School campus; therefore, they will follow the Charlotte County Public School calendar. As seniors attending classes on Edison College campus, Collegiate Institute students will follow Edison’s school calendar. While on the Charlotte High School campus, students will continue to grow academically, learn time management discipline as it pertains to college work, experience the rigor of the academics offered through college work as well as continue their full involvement in high school life.

While on Edison’s campus during their senior year, students will complete their academic requirements for both high school and college and still maintain their involvement in high school extra-curricular and athletic interests.
